Disaster Response Funding For Hurricane Helene and How to Help

Updates: October 01, 2024

Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida on Thursday, began as a category four hurricane and became the most powerful on record to hit Florida's Big Bend before moving north into Georgia, Alabama, the Carolinas, Virginia, and Tennessee. The storm, which downgraded to a tropical storm on Friday, has led to severe flooding and mudslides. Although Helene has moved past North Carolina, its effects are still deeply felt across the region. As of Tuesday, more than 600 people are unaccounted for following the storm and a death toll of over 150, while 2 million people are without power across multiple states.
